Plainview, N.Y. (June 12, 2010) -- A goal by Tom McNamara a few minutes into the first overtime gave the FC Westchester ’91 Boys its fourth State Open Cup championship title as the FCW squad topped defending regional champs East Fishkill 2-1 in the U19 State Cup final played at Peter Collins Soccer Park in Long Island.
FC Westchester went up 1-0 I the first half when Arturo Barajas drove a cross along the ground that McNamara put home for his first goal of the match. After controlling much of the second half, FCW gave up a late second half goal on a free kick. But in the third minute of the first 15 overtime period McNamara took a great layoff pass from Barajas and buried a 25 yard shot into the top corner of the goal.
Last week, in the Open Cup games played at the Lagrange Soccer Complex in Lagrangeville, N.Y.,Huntington Boys Club earned two State Cup titles at the Eastern New York’s Open Cup championships. Both HBC teams won via penalty kicks.
